A founder member of Booker T & The MGs and leader of the Stax Records house band, he played on, produced and co-wrote classics of the order of '(Sittin on) The Dock of the Bay' (Otis Redding), 'Knock On Wood' (Eddie Floyd), and 'In The Midnight Hour' (Wilson Pickett) as well as many, many more. The cry of 'Play it, Steve!' on Sam & Dave's 'Soul Man' was aimed at him. He has worked with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Bob Dylan… the list is almost endless, as well as heading the band for the cult 'Blues Brothers' movie.
